Why did you decide to join Cable? I was introduced to Cable by Janet Rachel, past Cable president, and I decided to join Cable when I made a personal commitment to invest in my own personal and professional career by networking, learning and sharing my expertise to aid in the development of others. Cable provided a win/win for me to learn and share.
What have you gained/learned from joining an organization like Cable? I have been encouraged, motivated and challenged. The motivational speakers have encouraged me, the Power of Inclusion committee has motivated me to continue to be the change we hope to see in this world, and serving as the vice chair of Programs has challenged me by creating a platform for me to share my time and talents with the organization while networking and helping the organization transition to our current virtual format.
How would you describe the benefits of Cable to someone thinking about joining the organization? I would challenge you to look at Cable as an investment in yourself. This organization will give you the opportunity to network, learn and share your talents. We are always seeking volunteers to serve in leadership roles and committee roles to aid in the continuous improvement of Nashville Cable.
What advice would you give to a young woman just starting her career? I like to encourage younger women with three words: Believe, Achieve, Become!! If you believe you can, you will achieve your goals, and you will become what you believe. Follow your goals; identify a mentor that is in the space you desire so that you can receive guidance that can help you jump over obstacles that might have blocked your path.
What was your very first job? My very first job was at the age of 14. I was a summer program assistant working with youth at Watkins Park Community Center through a summer program hosted by Bethlehem Centers of Nashville. I now serve on the board of directors for Bethlehem Centers of Nashville.
If you could have one superpower for a day, which one would you choose? I would love to have the power to quantum leap on vacations, and the first place I would go currently is to the beach. My feet are definitely missing the sand during COVID. However, I am patiently surviving quarantined life. 😊
