An eighth generation Nashvillian, Susan graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1973. She joined the marketing department of Jack Daniel Distillery that same year and became Director of Marketing Information Systems & Communication Services before she left in 1987 to start Direct Link, a full-service direct mail company.
A Past President of the Downtown Rotary Club, she is the past Chair of the YWCA Board of Directors and is active in Leadership Nashville. She also has Board experience with the Nashville Sports Council, the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Middle TN, St. Mary’s Sewanee, Cable, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, FiftyForward, St. David’s Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Diocese of Tennessee and St. Luke’s Community House. She served as a Deputy to the national Episcopal Church’s General Convention in 2018.
Susan joined Cable in the summer of 1987. A past Board President of the organization, Susan won their Spirit of Leadership Award in 1999 and was their ATHENA nominee in 1997 and 2008. In 2011, she was hired as their first Executive Director and was later named President & CEO. She retired from Cable in the spring of 2018.
In 2002, she was inducted into the YWCA’s “Academy for Women of Achievement”. She has also been named a “Woman of Influence” by the Nashville Business Journal, a leading “Woman in Business” by Nashville Lifestylesand was named to the “In Charge” list for nonprofit leaders in the Nashville Postevery year from 2013 to the present.
Susan has been married to her husband, Bill, since 1977 and they have two grown children, Allen and Ruth, daughter-in-law, Maggie, and grandchildren, Emory and Charlotte.
