Cable’s hallmark initiative is Women on Corporate Boards, which advocates for gender diversity on boards and in top leadership teams of Tennessee companies.
Research shows that companies with greater numbers of women on their boards and in executive leadership positions boast superior financial performance compared to their peers.
Despite these trends, women continue to be underrepresented on corporate boards and in C-suites across the country, particularly in Tennessee. In service to our mission of being the “premier leadership organization for women’s professional advancement” Cable is determined to support Tennessee’s qualified female candidates as they pursue board service. As a result, Tennessee’s corporate leadership teams will be more accurately aligned with the workforce they represent and the customers they serve.
Through Women on Corporate Boards, Cable supports Tennessee’s greatest un-tapped resources – women!
Board Walk of Fame
Cable honors Tennessee women and companies who are taking the lead in promoting women on corporate boards through its annual Board Walk of Fame event. During the event, these corporate leaders – who have acted on the evidence that more women on boards and in senior leadership positions leads to improved financial results and corporate vitality – are recognized and inducted into Cable’s Corporate Board Hall of Fame.
Board Walk of Fame is hosted by Cable’s Women on Corporate Boards and Tennessee Women Corporate Directors, who work to advocate for gender diversity in the top leadership positions of Tennessee companies.
Studies show that, while the percentage of female directors is improving, Tennessee continues to rank among the lowest states for representation of women on corporate boards. More champions are needed to increase the number of women in leadership positions and on boards. By hosting the Board Walk of Fame, Cable strives to show the business community in Tennessee and beyond the availability of qualified women and the value women bring to corporate boards.
The Corporate Board Academy is designed to help prepare board-ready women obtain meaningful corporate board roles. Candidates of the academy compete with an impressive field of applicants for a limited number of places in the intensive program. Three Saturday classes are held over four months with project work assigned for completion between sessions.
The Corporate Board Academy was developed by the Tennessee Chapter of Women Corporate Directors and EY and it covers critical information including current board topics, committee structures, researching potential board roles, and how to best present for a board role.
